Dream Catchers and Feathers.

Hello everyone!

I’ve been making a lot of necklaces lately. Just for fun. I tend to make things when I’m bored. There are three I am especially proud of that I feel the need to share with you all.

The first is a feather necklace. I’ve been rather obsessed with feathers as of late.

The second is a beaded bit. It took me some time to figure out how to put it together to achieve the results I was going for, but it was worth the effort and I’m pretty proud of it!

The last one is a dream catcher inspired piece. I had been seeing necklaces in this style around and really loved the way they looked.. so I made my own! It’s also a combination of my crochet/jewelry skills because the center of the dream catcher is crocheted!

Well that pretty much sums it up. I’m thinking of making some similar pieces for my Etsy shop. What do you think? Like them enough to buy?

Kitten Toys DIY!

Hello Hello!

So today I wanted to share with you two cute DIYs for some kitten toys! I’ve had my rescue kitten, Cully, for about two months now, and I decided it was about time she got some new toys to bat around!

Anyways, toy number one is what I call a ‘kitty duster’… you know… like a feather duster for cats to play with!

Kitty Duster

You will need:

-small dowel rod (or a stick of some sort)
-tacky glue
-yarn or string

Step One:
Apply tacky glue to one end of the dowel rod and attach the feathers on all sides of it until you feel there are enough feathers.

Step Two:
Apply more tacky glue at the tip of the dowel rod (on the feathers) and attach the end of the yarn. Begin to wrap the yarn around the feathers down the dowel rod until the feathers are tightly secured. I wrapped the dowel rod a bit past the feathers even.

Step Three:
Apply more tacky glue to the end of the yarn and secure. Now all you have to do is wait for the glue to dry completely and you’re ready to play!

Cully was a fan. :]

This next toy I call ‘The Puffball.’ This one is great because it uses so few materials and can be made in various sizes!

The Puffball

You will need:

-Something to wrap it around (I used my tv remote, but it depends on how big you want the puff to be. The thicker the thing you wrap it around the bigger the puff will be!)

Step One:
Start to wrap the yarn around your object. Make sure to wrap over the beginning string to secure it.

Step Two:
Continue to wrap the yarn until it is thickly layered.

Step Three:
Pull the yarn off of the object. Make sure to hold onto it so that it doesn’t lose its shape.

Step Four:
Take a string of yarn the length you would like the toy to be and tie the end around the bunch of yarn you wrapped around the object. Tie it tight! I like to even wrap it around a few times to make sure it is as tight as can be.

Step Five:
Cut the loops on both sides of the yarn bunch. After that all you have to do is fluff out your puff!

She’s so precious!

Both of these toys were a hit with Cully! After you have the basics you can experiment as well! I later combined the two methods to make a feather bunch on the end of a string.

Hope you enjoyed these fun DYIs! Also, don’t forget my Etsy Shop is having a 25% off sale when you use the code LOVEWHALE at checkout!

Granny Square Blanket…Finally!

So I don’t know if any of you remember my granny square blanket I’ve been working on for quite some time, but I am pleased to say that it is finally completed! I was hoping to have it done awhile ago, but at the end of the process I decided to add a final detail that ended up taking longer than I had intended.

The detail I decided to add at the end was the penny circle border I did. I made it a bit bigger than it should have been so it bunches up, but I actually like the finale effect it had.

Well that is all for now!
Be sure to check out my Etsy Shop!

Hey there!

So I know it’s been awhile since my last post… I apologize for I have been rather busy putting together another site for my personal portfolio! (I will make a post about that once it’s finished!) I have actually been making a lot of things as of late, but have not really had time to photograph them until today, so now I can post! Anyways, there are a few items I want to talk about:

So I do believe I have made the longest scarf in the whole world… This thing is about 10′ long! I used the crochet puff stitch which is really thick, so as a result this scarf is super warm! I can wrap it around my neck about five times, but I think it looks adorable wrapped three times with a bit hanging down. This same scarf is currently for sale in my Etsy Shop so if you like it take a look!

Yeah I’ve been crocheting like mad… it’s winter. :]
I’ve really been working on my hat making skills as of late and am pretty proud of this one! Finally I have accomplished a slouchy hat!

I’ve also been making a lot of wrap bracelets! I love these, and though I make them with intentions of putting them on my Etsy Shop, I end up keeping about half of them! There are a few different ones in the shop though so take a look!

Well that’s most of what I have been working on except of course my granny square blanket… I know I should be done with it by now, but I decided last minute to add another detail to it that is turning out to be quite tedious work… I’ll be sure to post as soon as its done!

New Etsy Items!

Hello All!

So as of late I’ve been pretty busy making jewelry for my Etsy Shop! I’ve added six new items! I’ve recently got my hands on a bunch of pretty feathers, so one of the items is a necklace featuring those. I loved it so much I had to make one for myself to keep, so I’m hoping you all will like it as well! I’ve also been really busy constructing wrap bracelets since they’ve become so popular. Check them out!

Basket Weave Scarf

Hi there!

So it’s been awhile since my last post I know, but it was finals week at school. I hope you understand! So anyways, I had been working on this scarf for awhile and finally finished it right before all the finals week shenanigans. Unfortunately I then had zero time to write about it until now. I’m just thankful school is done for this semester!

I used the basket weave stitch for this scarf which was rather yarn thirsty and resulted in a thick scarf perfect for the winter weather. I used a multi colored yarn that was a plumy purple, tan, black, and grey. It looked pretty as a yarn ball, but I’m not a huge fan of the results [color wise] for this scarf. I would like it better as different colors, but I know others might actually love this color pallet.

But without further delay:

This scarf will be for sale in my Etsy Shop so check it out!

New Items in My Etsy Shop!

Hi there everyone!

So if you remember my school project in which I made tech cases I told you about here, well the sale didn’t go so well [I’m going to blame the time slot we had to work with since not many people are about in the morning] so most of my items can now be found on my Etsy Shop. I priced these hand made items pretty decently for the time that they took to make so you should really consider checking them out! They are ideal for small phones, small cameras, ipods, or other small tech devices and are lined to prevent scratches and protect devices!

So seriously, go check it out. They could make a great Christmas gift! :]

I Made a Hat!

Hello everyone!

So I’m pretty stoked about this project! Mostly because I have finally succeeded in crocheting a hat. I have attempted and failed this ridiculous amounts… they just never turn out right for some reason. Last night, however, I managed to get it right!

I used the pattern found here and although my hat didn’t turn out quite as slouchy as the hat in the photo or as slouchy as I would have liked, I’m just excited that it turned out at all! I have been crocheting for nearly two years now and hats are just my weak point. I’m particularly proud of the band around the bottom, and I used the puff stitch for the rest of the hat [like the pattern says].

I plan on continuing to practice hat crocheting in hopes that I will one day figure out what I have been doing wrong. In the mean time, my Etsy shop is having a 25% off sale through the month of December! See my previous post about it here for details!
